If you are a keen carp fisherman or woman, there is a definite must-visit area located in the picturesque region of Limousin in France. Eden’s Lakes is situated near the town of La Prugne, just west of the medieval town of Montlucon and just over six hours drive from Calais.
With up to 50 daily ferry crossings between Folkestone and Calais, it couldn’t be easier to get down to some of the most idyllic fishing lakes in Europe, hence the name based on the Garden of Eden! This fisherman’s paradise provides the ideal location for a fishing holiday in France, where one can escape the stresses of everyday life and find peace in this perfect, serene setting.
There are three lakes of similar size, with the largest, the North Lake, measuring five acres and both the Jolly Pad Lake and Simon’s Lake measuring three acres. These are fed by smaller stock lakes and surrounding streams and springs that were created in 1994 to produce a natural environment where fish could breed in the fish farm and be fit for the table. The lakes are surrounded by shrubbery, and hundreds of trees to provide ultimate cover for an idyllic fishing session.
The carp lakes were originally a fishing farm and were specially converted into a fishing location when the springs and streams were added. This has led to the lakes being stocked with a high quality breed of carp weighing up to 53 pounds, which have been steadily growing and are not too difficult to catch. Despite this, the carp at Eden’s Lakes are notorious for being very feisty and provide a battle when caught. Despite these hard fighting fish, it isn’t uncommon to have multiple catches in these fertile lakes.
The facilities at the lakes provide everything you need for the perfect carp fishing holiday in France, with the site boasting four areas for caravan pitching and a chalet with showers, toilets, and power points. There’s also on onsite bait shop and a restaurant cooking fresh meals throughout the day, meal packages are available upon request.
The nearby small market town of La Prugne has a few small bars and restaurants, bakeries, a hotel and two supermarkets, which means you can stroll to get some lunch in a restaurant or to have a coffee in the picturesque main square to celebrate some good catches. Overall, Eden’s Lakes provide an idyllic carp fishing location and the best possible getaway destination for any fishing enthusiast.
